Ready, Set, Plant: Everything You Need To Know About Our Metal Planters

Welcome to the Honey Bee Outdoor™ blog!

We're buzzing with excitement to help you create a beautiful outdoor space. We know you might have some questions about getting started with our metal planters, so we’ve gathered a few of the most common ones to help you feel confident as you bring your garden dreams to life.

Why should I choose a metal planter?

Metal planters are the perfect blend of style and function. They offer a clean or unique rustic look that won’t crack or fade like plastic while also being more lightweight when compared to stone, cement, or ceramic. Plus, their durability means they can handle all kinds of weather, so your plants are safe no matter the season.

Will my new planter rust?

Our planters are built to be tough! They are made from high-quality metal with interior and exterior coatings designed to resist rust. Over time, some may develop a beautiful, natural patina, which adds a unique character and tells the story of your garden's journey.

Can I use these planters indoors?

Yes! All of our planters are versatile enough for both indoor and outdoor use. They come with pre-drilled drainage holes, so for indoor use, be sure to place a tray underneath to protect your floors from excess water.

What kind of plants are best for these?

You can plant just about anything! Our planters are perfect for a wide variety of plants—from vibrant flowers and lush ferns to sleek succulents and herbs. Just be sure to pick plants that are suited for your climate and the planter's location.

How do I prepare my planter for a new plant?

The process is simple! To keep your planter lighter and ensure good drainage, we have a tip for you (especially for our larger sized planters).

First, you can use lightweight infill at the bottom of the planter. Some examples include:

  • An upside-down bucket or pot

  • Recyclables (plastic bottles, jugs, etc.)

  • Sticks, tree limbs, and pinecones

  • Pool noodles

  • Pickleballs

  • Lightweight plant infill fabric

After that, just add your favorite potting mix and plant away!
